Nephesh Theatre's production of "The Lady and the Peddlar", a Dance/theatre adaptation of the S Y Agnon story will be presented at Tel Aviv's Cameri Theatre from March 14th 2010.
Nobel prize laureate S Y Agnon's story revolves around a Jewish peddler who loses his way in the forest during a storm and finds refuge with a Christian widow. He sells her a knife, spends the night in her home, forgets himself, his religion and loses himself in his desire. It is this desire which nearly causes his murder.
Incorporating dance and video "The Lady and the Peddlar" is a symbolic and stylized presentation enabling Agnon's fable to be interpretated in many ways.
The adaptation by Yosefa Even Shoshan features veteran actor Victor Attar and dancer Ilana Cohen. The production is directed by Geula Yafet-Attar, music by Yuval Mesner, Design by Rakefet Levy, Video by Hadas Efrat and lighting by Uri Rubinstein.
"The Lady and the Peddlar" will be presented monthly at Tel Aviv's Cameri Theatre beginning March 14th 2010.
Next season the production will be paired with the adaptation of Nobel prize laureate I. B Singer's "Gimpel the Fool". These two plays will tour North America in English beginning with an-off-Broadway run at La Mama ETC.
