Introduction
Welcome to Plays of Jewish Interest an interactive resource and meeting place for playwrights, producers, directors, theatre managers, producers, actors and scholars.
Plays of Jewish Interest is a collaborative project of the Foundation for Jewish Culture (FJC) and All About Jewish Theatre, the global website to promote and enhance Jewish theatre and performing arts worldwide.
This catalog is an update of the 1982 NFJC Plays of Jewish Interest, edited Edward M. Cohen. This revision reflects the burgeoning repertoire of plays of Jewish interest available in English to the international community.
What you will find in this catalog:
Titles and authors of approximately 2000 plays and wherever available brief synopses, reviews/blurbs, genres, length, production information, length, settings, casting information, production history and contact information. The catalog also lists categories of Jewish content, e.g. historical, biblical, Holocaust drama, etc. The repertoire is a vital organism, constantly growing and evolving. Complete and current data were not always available and there are, inevitably, omissions and errors. We solicit and welcome user participation.
To update, correct or supply information for a current listing, to add a play or other pertinent information to the listing, please go to All About Jewish Theatre Resource Center - Plays Section
Directory of Plays of Jewish Interest for Young Audiences (in collaboration with AJT)
As to the perennial question: What is a Jewish play ? Plays of Jewish Interest is neither doctrinaire not definitive.
The catalogue is designed to be as inclusive as possible, leaving questions of Jewish relevance to the discrimination and interests of individual users.
