World premiere of a new documentary feature on the Yiddish Theater in NY.

WORLD PREMIERE OF FILM ON YIDDISH THEATER IN NEW YORK
AT THE JERUSALEM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 05
WHEN: Wednesday July 13, 2005 20:00
WHERE: Beit Shmuel, 6 Shamma St. Hirch Hall, Jerusalem

New Year's in NYC: Zypora Spaisman, the last diva of Yiddish Theater, fights to stay on stage with a disappearing language that has lost its audience. Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Dan Katzir follows one Yiddish theater troupe, voted one of the top ten shows by the NY POST, in their attempt to bring their show uptown to Broadway . This is the story of the roller coaster ride of fringe theater, of a culture fighting to survive and of one extraordinary woman's fight to keep her show alive, knowing that if it won't she will die as well.

The film includes rare interviews with many of the Yiddish stage's last remaining stars including Seymour Rexsite in one of his last interviews.

Director Dan Katzir is an award winning Israeli filmmaker who has garnered over 20 International awards worldwide including a nomination for the Israeli Academy Award. His film Out for Love… Be Back Shortly is considered the most important historical document on the Rabin era in Israel.

Dan is a graduate cum laude of the Film Department at Tel Aviv University and has an MFA from the the prestigious AFI (American Film Institute) in Los Angeles.

He now divides his time between Israel and Los Angeles where he is in pre production on his first fiction LEAP, bringing to the screen the classic play Out of Gas on Lover's Leap by Mark St. Germain(Camping with Henry and Tom ) . Throughout the years many fine actors have appeared in it including Matt Le Blanc (Friends ) , Jason Patric (Narc), Maria Bello ( ER), Nicholas Brandon (Buffy) and many more.

Executive Producer Nicholas Kalikow is a Los Angeles based writer/producer. He graduated from Columbia University where he majored in Art History. After a brief period working in commercial real estate, he worked for several film companies including Miramax before becoming the CEO of film 101 West . His latest feature documentary- "The Outdoorsmen" premiered this year at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air soon on SPIKE. Nic Is Currently in pre-production on the feature LEAP.

Producer Ravit Markus is an American based Israeli producer, who is a graduate of Tel Aviv University. She has worked for various TV stations including Israeli TV and Channel 4 (UK), she is currently developing several feature projects in the US.
