Who is behind All About Jewish Theatre?

All About Jewish Theatre was launched by Moti Sandak in 2003 at the AJT Conference in Washington DC in collaboration with the Jewish Agency. Since 2006, All About Jewish Theatre is run by the International Institute for Jewish and Israeli Culture, headed by Sandak. In addition to digitally distributing the study of Jewish culture, this NPO also initiates and promotes productions, exhibitions and conferences on Jewish theatre and performing arts worldwide, as well as the publication of plays and professional literature.

Contributions to All About Jewish Theatre come from its editorial board, a team of international correspondents (in New York, Chicago, London, Berlin, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Krakow, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv), universities, libraries and collections, as well as theatres, PR agents, artists, scholars and volunteers.

What is the Virtual Museum of Jewish Theatre and Performing Arts?

The Virtual Museum of Jewish Theatre and Performing Arts website is currently in development. As the second phase of All About Jewish Theatre, it will host the largest repository of historical theatre documents and theatre works representing major trends in Jewish performing arts: Biblical performance and Purimspiels, Yiddish and Ladino, works from the ghetto and the camps in Nazi Europe, Jewish theatre in Arab countries, the American theatre and musical, modern Israeli Hebrew theatre, and the growth of contemporary Jewish theatres worldwide. In May 2008, the Virtual Museum was featured in Facing Tomorrow, President Shimon Peres' first international conference in Jerusalem. It was selected to take part in the conference exhibition, displaying the 60 most exciting upcoming projects to be launched in Israel.

Accompanied by a timeline that chronologically shows the development of the Jewish theatre with world theatre and history, visitors will surf across geography and time to easily find any play or theatrical work.
